He was known to be friendly and would often walk miles out of his way to do a good deed. If any of his neighbors got sick, he would be there with milk, eggs, or strawberries from his garden. Yet, he protected his property with a shotgun. He was inclined to be inventive and was afraid people were going to steal his ideas and mechanical devices which he made to use on his farm.
History tells us that a 19-year old boy named Bernard (Knifey) Sawicki murdered Henri. Having been paroled from a Catholic School and Juvenile home, Sawicki was placed with a couple named Glennon, who lived on a farm near the Henri Allain place.
Each time the Glennon's returned him to the institution, he escaped. The last time he escaped, Henri Allain turned him into the authorities. This was in May of 1938. Sawicki was confined to the St. Charles Reformatory. After being paroled in 1941, he killed three people before being taken into custody again by the Chicago police. Henri Allain was his first victim.
Bernard Sawicki was executed on January 17, 1942, by electrocution in the Cook County Jail.
