Mr. Wm. Bailey was born in Kentucky in 1816, died at his residence 4 miles north of this place, January 11, 1890, aged nearly 74.
He had lived with his parents both in Iowa and Illinois. He was married in Illinois in 1857 to Miss Eliza Blair; two or three years after his marriage, he and his young wife went to Wisconsin, 1867 they came to Iowa. In 1875, his wife died and in 1870 he was married to Mrs. Julia Southerland who lives to mourn his loss.
Mr. B. had ten children by his first wife, 4 of who still live. He experienced religion when 21 and united with the M.E. Church.
The funeral services were conducted by A.C. Manwell, D.D., January 14.
Waverly Republican, Thursday January 16, 1890

W.L. Bailey, who resided a short distance up the river, while throwing hay down from the loft of his barn, missed his footing and fell through the trap (by which entrance to the loft is obtained). He fell 12 feet to the floor below striking the back of his head with such force as to fracture his skull. He was picked up unconscious and remained so for 4 or 5 hours when death relieved him of his sufferings, if he was conscious of any.
Mr. Bailey was an old gentlemen of upwards of 70 years of age and leaves a crippled wife (who was lamed for life several years ago, likewise by a fall), besides several children. Dr. Barber was in attendance and remained till death closed the scene, but the injury and advanced age of the patient rendered all human aid futile.
