Civil War: Company G, 10th Kansas Infantry;
and Company M, 6th Kansas Cavalry

John C. Anderson was born in Norway and came to the United States as an infant. During the Civil War he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant at Paola, Kansas, March 4, 1862, and mustered into Company G, 10th Kansas Infantry, April 3, 1862. Lieutenant Anderson was transferred to Company M, 6th Kansas Cavalry, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, on July 30, 1863. Lieutenant Anderson was mustered out at DeVall's Bluff, Arkansas, July 18, 1865. After the war he married Sarah Melissa Noyes October 4, 1871, and settled at Junction City, Geary County, Kansas. John filed for a Civil War veteran's pension in Geary County on September 15, 1890, and received application No. 938,206 and certificate No. 646,205. He was still living at Junction City in 1900 (US Census). Sometime thereafter he relocated to Berryville, Carroll County, Arkansas, where he was living by 1910 (US Census). After his death in 1912, Sarah filed for a widow's pension in Carroll County on September 25, 1912, and received application No. 993,744 and certificate No. 751,688. John and Sarah did not have any children.
