The first census she is enumerated on is the 1860 and she is 9 years old, born in Ohio the family is living in Waterloo, Black Hawk, Iowa. In 1850 her father was in Lorain County, Ohio which is possibly her place of birth. They are listed on the 1870 and 1880 census records in Black Hawk and her birth year is consistent. She married Matthew Blakley Clemenger on 28 Sep 1890 at Hull, Sioux County, Iowa where her age is given as 33 when in fact she was about 37. She gives Oct 1857 on the 1900 census, possibly because her husband was younger than she was.

The notice of her death was published on 12 Dec 1902 in The Mitchell Capital, Mitchell, South Dakota, a former residence. It stated she died on 15 Oct 1902 at Skagway from a complication of heart trouble and asthma. She had received a college education and was a graduate of two of the best conservatories of music in the United States. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the International Red Cross Society, a devoted Christian of the Episcopal faith. During her stay in Skagway she spent much of her time in the teaching of music.
