Stanley was born March 3, 1911 near Bergen, North Dakota. He was the fourth child of Knut and Anna (Stevens) Berg. He was 4 years old when his parents decided to move the family back to the Eleva, WI area. Stanley attended Hillside school. In 1938 he married Mariann Matson, daughter of Helfred and Syver Matson at St. Paul's Lutheran Chuch in Strum.
Stanley was a gifted carpenter and was custodian at Eleva Lutheran Church until his second retirement.

Stanley was survived by three sons, Michael (Judy), Peter and David (Mary), all of Eleva. also survived by six grandchildren, Kari, Kathy, Jon, Karla, Susan and Steven. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Kyle, Chad and Morgan, Hope and Tucker, Ethan, Halle and Gwendolyn; one brothe, Walter (June) Gehring; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
