JOHANNES ADAM RAUSCH ~ German birth name

Born, Johannes Adam Rausch in Hessen, Darmstadt, Germany, the son of Johann Nicholas and Anna Catherine Alberts Rausch. He died October 19, 1786 near New Market in Shenandoah Co, VA. His wife was Susannah Sehler.

Johann Adam Rausch sailed from Rotterdam and arrived in Philadelphia, PA on Oct 19, 1736 on the Brigantine John of Perth Amboy where he was qualified, taking the oath of Faith and Fidelity in Pennsylvania on that date at the courthouse. In 1739 he was married to Susannah Schlern/Sehler in Philadelphia. Shortly after, he and Susannah migrated to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Upon arriving in what was then Frederick County, they settled on the banks of Mill Creek where Johann was a farmer, a mill owner and a tanner.
His nine sons, and three son-in-laws all did service during the Revolutionary War. Up to modern times no one has found a family that contributed this kind of service. He has been recognized by the Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution for his public service to the cause of Freedom in America.

Thirty seven Foreigners, from the Palatinate, who, with their Families, making in all one hundred and ten persons, were imported here in the Brigantine John, of Perth Amboy, George Frazer, Master, from Rotterdam, but last from Dover, as by Clearance thence, were this day qualified as usual."
