Martha Rutter Templeton
Mount Union, Pa., Oct. 1 – Mrs. Martha J. Rutter Templeton, widow of Richard C. Templeton, died September 29, 1931, at 7:15 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.J. Martin, at No. 234 Plymouth Place, Merchantville, New Jersey. Having been born in Huntingdon County, June 25, 1841, the daughter of John W. and Rebecca Rhodes Rutter, she was aged at the time of her death past 90 years of age. She was united in marriage with Richard C. Templeton and he died 42 years ago. Martha J. Rutter Templeton was a woman of splendid Christian character. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Orbisonia and also was a member of the "Shut-In" Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Merchantville. Her health had failed gradually for some months but she was confined to bed for five weeks previous to her death. Complications brought death which were incident to advanced age. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Laura J. Briggs of Orbisonia; Dade Templeton of Pittsburgh and Mrs. W.J. Martin, of Merchantville, New Jersey. A number of grandchildren also survive. One sister, Mrs. David Kelley, of Huntingdon also survive. Funeral services will be held from the home of a daughter, Mrs. Laura J. Briggs, Ridgely Street, Orbisonia Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. The Rev. Cohick of the Methodist Church of Orbisonia will officiate and W.Q. Blatt will direct the interment in the Orbisonia Cemetery.
