Major League Baseball Player, Manager. The switch-hitting first baseman played 18 years in the big leagues with the Washington Senators (1930 to 1937, 1944 to 1946) and the Chicago White Sox (1938 to 1943, 1946 to 1947). In 1933 he hit .322 with 34 doubles, 11 homers and 107 runs batted in but managed only a .150 average in five games during the World Series that year against the New York Giants. He had his most productive season in 1936 when he hit .321 with 42 doubles, 16 homers and 118 RBIs. Kuhel tied an American League record in 1937 by hitting three triples in one game. On March 18, 1938, he was traded to the White Sox for first baseman Zeke Bonura. He belted 27 homers in 1940, which at the time tied the White Sox's single-season record. He was sold back to the Senators on November 14, 1943 and then sold back to the White Sox on June 13, 1946. He finished with a .277 career batting average, 2,212 hits, 412 doubles, 111 triples, 131 homers, 1,049 RBIs and 178 stolen bases. He then managed Washington to a seventh-place finish at 56-97 in 1948 and a last-place finish at 50-104 in 1949.
