Charles E. Lorentz, 79, of 1821 Thomas Street, died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center. He was retired government employee from the shipyards in Washington state.

He was born May 23, 1909, in Gorham, Illinois, and lived in Washington until 1957 when he moved to Butler County. He lived in Harviell and Poplar Bluff. Mr. Lorentz was of Baptist faith and an Army veteran of World War II. He was married to Margaret Shofield on January 21, 1984 in Poplar Bluff.

Survivors include two sons, John Lorentz of Saint Marys, Missouri, and Charles Lorentz of Colorado; five daughters, Sharon Casey of Cahokia, Illinois, and Mary, Anna, Geraldine and Charlene, last names and addresses unavaliable; one brother, Henry Lorentz of Lufkin, Texas; one sister Esther Hockersmith of Scott City; and several grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Fitch Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Memorial Post Number 630. Visitation begins at 7:00 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
