Baptized in the Dunkerton Methodist Church in Dunkerton Iowa. Schooled at Benninton Township and Dunkerton Schools. After completing his junior year in High School, he joined the National Guard in May 1948 and the Marine Corps in July 1948. He served in Korea and Japan. In 1951 he graduated from Dunkerton High School. He was married three times: to Doris Miller of Iowa, to Joan Hoppe of San Mateo, California and to Loretta Whitney of Oakland, California. Loretta and George had two children, Victoria and Renee. George was a member of East Bay Automotive Local. He was a mechanic for Lifton, Inc., and enjoyed racing cars. He died of a heart attack at the age of 37.
