Cornelia Clarke, 95, Johnson City, passed away Friday, July 11, at Appalachian Christian Village.

A native of Jessamine County, she was the oldest daughter of the late Robert Lee and Inice Brumfield Johns. She was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and a longtime member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was active in Monday Club and numerous civic and charitable organizations. She was a 1956 graduate of East Tennessee State College, with a B.S. degree in education. She was a long-term employee of the Johnson City School System, teaching mainly the 5th and 6th grades at Columbus Powell School, and was an inspiration to her students. She was a selfless, loving and generous person who cherished her friends and family and touched many lives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ralph W. Clarke, Dec. 30, 1998, brothers, Robert Lee Johns Jr. and Elbert Johns and sister, Mary Agnes Corman.

Survivors include her sons, Richard "Dicky" and wife, Sharon Clarke of Marietta, Ga., Ralph A. and wife Jeanne Clarke of Jonesborough, grandchildren, Wesley G. and wife Christy Clarke of Simpsonville, S.C., Bradley, Linsey, Andrew and Austin Clarke, all of Jonesborough, sister, Ester Wells, brothers, Creed Johns, Lucian Johns and Tom Welch Johns, all of Kentucky.

The funeral service for Mrs. Clarke was conducted at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 13, in the sanctuary of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church with Brian Taylor, pastor, officiating. Interment followed at Monte Vista Memorial Park with Delano Brown officiating. Pallbearers were selected from family and friends. The family received friends from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the church chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, 201 E. Market Street, Johnson City, TN 37601. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.appfh.net.
