Charlie Burtrum

Charlie Burtrum, 91, of Mesa, Ariz., died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Banner Bay Hospital in Mesa following a lengthy illness.

Burtrum was born Dec. 1, 1913, in Granby, Mo., to Leroy and Olive Burtrum.

He was a longtime resident of Miami.

He was a World War II veteran of the Navy.

In his early years, he and his brother, Joe, owned and operated the Burtrum Brothers Motor Company in Granby. He later owned the Chevrolet dealership in Paris, Texas. He owned and operated the Burtrum Lincoln-Mercury and the Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Dodge GMC dealerships.

He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Miami Lions Club.

He later owned and operated the National Auto Brokers in Tempe, Ariz., for 13 years.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou, of the home; three sons, Charles Burtrum Jr. of Tulsa, Steven R. Burtrum of Springdale, Ark., and Douglas Burtrum of Fairfax; one daughter, Jan Whitehawk of West Lafayette, Ohio, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services were held April 8 at Green Acres Mortuary in Scottsdale, Ariz., with Steve Burtrum officiating.

Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery.
