Thyrza Atherton
Thryza I. Evans Atherton, 101, of Kensington, Md, formerly of Burlington died Monday, Nov. 25, 1996 in Maryland.
Born July 4, 1895, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of David and Talitha Tompson* Mehaffy. She married Dwight Evans Feb. 18, 1914. He died in
November of 1951. She later married Carl Atherton Nov. 9, 1957, in Burlington. He died in 1981.
She was a beauty operator in Burlington in the 1930's, was a member of the West Hill Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking and crocheting.
Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Bellman of Maryland; one granddaughter, three great-grandchildren; five
great-great grandchildren; five step-children, Stanley Atherton, Elwyn Atherton and Louise Stewart, all of Burlington,Pauline Dotson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Myrtle Hoeg, of Wapello; nine step-grandchildren and several great-and great-great step-grandchildren.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter and seven brothers and sisters.
A memorial service for Mrs. Atherton was Nov. 27 at Collins Funeral Home in Silver Spring Md. with the Rev. Ross Forcey officiating. Her body has been
cremated. Burial will be at a later date in Burlington's Memorial Cemetery. No graveside service will be held.
