As young men, Wilson and his brother William Tillman were listed in the Muster Roll of Captain A.J. Hembree Company "E" of the first regiment of Oregon mounted volunteers, commanded by Colonel James E. Kelly, called into the service of the territoryof Oregon , by proclamation of the governor, Oct. 11, 1855. They participated in "Indian Wars" specically in Central Washington. Captain Hembree was killed near Toppenish, WA during one of these.
