Silas enlisted in Company F, 46th Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry on 5 Feb 1865. He contracted black measles and was discharged on 27 May 1865. Unfortunately, he never recovered. He had two daughters: Mary E Holbrook (1864 - 1865); Jennie May Holbrook Jones (1866 - 1947).
