Cemeteries are such unique places. I enjoy the beauty of sculptures, mausoleums and various items around the interred. The statuary, the iconic images, representative symbols, old rod iron fencing; it is all fascinating. From the most elaborate statue to the simply inscribed piece of wood.

There is so much mystery in a cemetery. Stories that are told and stories to wonder about and stories to find out about.

I am a 4th generation San Franciscan and have lived in Marin County for over three decades.

I enjoy taking photographs of the surroundings and capturing the beauty of the burial plot. I do my best to capture the entire tombstone in as pretty a shot as I can manage. I continually watch for seasonal changes or offerings to capture a better representation of the marker and view.

I spend a great deal of time in cemeteries; both physically and virtually. I photograph and document a select number of cemeteries in the counties of Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino as well as San Francisco and Colma.

I also enjoy researching and adding histories, especially pre-1920's. Love the old West Marin ranching history and the Mendocino logging and nautical history. I enjoy perusing old newspapers and other documents to find people lost to each other and especially connecting orphaned baby memorials to their parents.

I generally stick to the counties I am familiar with as I know the geography, area history, etc.

Please do not send me full obits. If you want to take your time and edit out certain points, please do so, per policy.

I will not post the names of living individuals per policy.

Two Rock Presbyterian Church Cemetery, possible Skinners
Wondering if by any chance Hugh Rudolphus Skinner could be buried here? My g-grandmother was Julia Skinner, his youngest child. Have been trying to flesh out her family. Nancy Ash

Macedonia ME Cemetery, Sonoma Co.
Hello from Oregon!

I am trying to pin down the burial location of some Oregon Pioneers (1843) who moved to Sonoma county about 1849, John and Almeda (Boyd) Manning. On the census records for 1860 & 1870, they are listed in Analy Township, and a comparison of names on the 1877 township map puts them near the intersection of Woodworth Road and Gravenstein Highway, about a mile SSW of the Macedonian ME Church & Cemetery. Almeda passed away on Oct. 6, 1872 ("near Sebastabol") and John on Jul. 13, 1873 (at his son's house at Guerneville). The death notices & obits do not give a burial location, but since they had been in the area for over 20 years, it is assumed that they would be buried near their home. A lengthy biography of John states that he had suffered some serious financial setbacks, and were basically penniless when they died, so it is likely that their graves would be unmarked.

My question for you (since you have been to the Macedonia cemetery) is, did you have the impression that there may be a significant number of unmarked graves there, in addition to the 43 currently listed at Find a Grave?

Thank you in advance for your assistance with this matter, and have a great weekend!

Alex & Katherine Erickson Hellen
Hi Colletta,
I was wondering if you would mind transferring Alex Hellen #141865418 and Katherine 'Katie' Erickson Hellen #141865433 to me. They are my great grandparents on my mothers side. If you require any further information from me, please let me know.
Thank you for your help.

RE: Christina Olufs
If I understand correctly, should I remove Christina from John Henry's memorial? This can not be done, the two married on 12. Sep 1930 in Nieblum on Föhr. - Or have I translated something wrong? Jan "John" Memorial# 15975503 & Christina Memorial# 15975507. Please let me know what you mean exactly. Greetings

Maria Rosario Briones & Hiram John Nott
Hi Colletta. Some lady sent me a marriage date for Rosario and Hiram which changes most of what I thought about them and their lives in Bolinas.

This is her note to me: "This is what I have from San Rafael Mission records. En el ano 1852 y el 14 Setiembre case y vele Jose Juan Nott edad de veinte y seis anos, hijo de Enoc y de Black vit de los Estados Unidos y Rosario Briones edad de 19 anos, hija de Gregorio y de Ramona Garcia. Prevido todo por el concilis fueron testigos Gregorio Briones y de George Gorzht (?)"

The would have married on 14 Sept. 1852. Their daughter Frances may have been born "prematurely" in 1851 or she could have been born in 1852, still a bit premature. But it appears that all of the children living with Rosario in the Bolinas 1870 census belong to her and Hiram.

I asked the lady to see if she could find a birth record for Frances Nott in the San Rafael Mission records the next time she was there. I'll let you know if I hear from you.

Best regards.

Jan

RE: William Crowe
Sorry. There are duplicate entries for this William Crowe.
Didn't know how to combine the two. So I thought you could modify the bio.
