Kenneth Ellsworth "Pete" Nelson was born on July 14, 1931, the son of Albert and Ida (Meslow) Nelson on the family farm located in Cameron Township of Ward County, near Douglas, ND. He was raised on the family farm and attended Cameron Township country schools. He graduated from Douglas High School in 1949.
Following his high school graduation he assisted his parents with the daily operations of the family farm.
Pete was united in marriage to Lorraine Bradley on October 3, 1954, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ryder, ND. They made their home on the Nelson family farm where they farmed small grains and raised livestock. He retired from farming in 1990.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Douglas, the Douglas School Board, the Cameron Township Pleasant Hill School Board, the Douglas Farmers Elevator Board, and the Douglas Nifty Fifty's Senior Citizen Club. He was a Cameron Township supervisor for many years and was a former member of the Moose Lodge.
As a young adult, he played high school baseball and basketball. He enjoyed tinkering with his antique machinery in his basement and his barn, mowing his lawn and trimming his trees. He also enjoyed dancing and singing, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Pete was quick witted and had a great sense of humor, as he had a punch line for everything. He enjoyed others humor as well. He was also a very strong person, as he endured diabetes for over 50 years.
His loving family includes: wife of 52 years, Lorraine, Douglas, ND; children, Tim (Annette) Nelson, Minot, Greg (Jackie) Nelson, Bismarck, and Sheri (Dean) Weigel, Bismarck; grandchildren, Brent (Brook) Nelson, Corey and Kayla Nelson; Courtney, Shanda and Michelle Nelson; and Pam, Tom and Kim Weigel; great-grandson, Braden Kenneth Nelson; sisters, Mildred Talbott, Minot, and Ardeline Reuter, Great Falls, MT; brother, Ilard (Ina) Nelson, Makoti; and numerous nieces and nephews.
