Kenneth Allen Ballew, 76, of Highway 176, Tryon, North Carolina, passed away March 5, 1999, in St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus, North Carolina.

A native of Polk County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Sidney (Edgar J) Ballew and Effie (Kuykendall) Ballew (1894-1986).

He retired as lieutenant from the Navy after serving 23 years. He served during World War II and the Korean War. He also served five years in the Merchant Marines during the Vietnam War. He was a member of VFW Post No. 10349 in Mill Spring, N.C. He was a Mason and a Shriner.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Ballew; two daughters, Kathleen B. Pack of Columbus, NC, and Linda Susan Johansen of Ten Mile, OR; a son, Timothy A. Ballew of Landrum, SC; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services, with military rites provided by the Polk County Memorial Squad, were held March 7, 1999 in Polk Memorial Gardens.
