Train Crash Fatal to Ray Chivers

Ray L. Chivers, 55, died in a Glenwood Springs, Colorado, hospital Sunday (February 19, 1950)at 10:45 p.m. of injuries suffered when a Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad passenger train crashed into the truck he was driving.

Officers at Glenwood Springs reported that the accident occurred Friday near Wolcott, colorado. The truck driven by Mr. Chivers apparently stalled on the tracks and was carried 1970 feet before the train came to a stop.

The victim's wife, driving an auto following the truck, arrived at the scene shortly after the crash but did not witness the accident, Colorado officers said.

Mr. Chivers was born in Vernal February 5, 1895, a son of John (Thomas) and Caroline Hunting Chivers.

On July 12, 1913, he was married to Della Robbins by Bishp Walter Simper. They spent the first years of their married life living in Davis ward and at the Bonanza mines, moving to Ashley ward the spring of 1942. Since that time Mr. Chivers has been engaged in farming and stock raising.

Surviving are his widow, of Vernal; three adopted daughters: Mrs. Reva Long, Bonanza; Mrs Larry Weight, Salt Lake; and Dianna Rae Chivers, Vernal; a sister, Mrs. Eliza Kolb, Port Chicago, California; six brothers, James, Nathan, Clyde, and Dee Chivers all of Vernal; Lewis Chivers of Salt Lake City; and Cecil Chivers of Hayden, Colorado.

Funeral Services were conducted Wednesday (February 22, 1950)at 1 p.m. in Ashley ward chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by LeRoy Richens, bishop.

Feneral Services Held for Crash Victim

Funeral services for Ray L. Chivers were conducted by C. L. Richens, bishop, on Wednesday (February 22, 1950) of last week at 1 p.m. in the Ashley ward chapel. Prayer in the home was by Alfred Simper, "Sometime We'll Understand" was sung by a chorus sonsisting of Leland Sowards, Warren Jones, Sylvia Richens, Mary Cook, Edna Anderson and Erma Jones; "In The Garden", a trio by Edna Anderson, Erma and Warren Jones.

Speakers were Bishop Richens and President, Archie Johnson; "Old Rugged Cross" was sung by Frank Walker; "Beyond the Sunset" by the Fifth quorum of Elders. Invocation was by Hyrum Toone and benediction by Claude Allred. Dedication of the grave, Thomas E. Kidd.

Pallbearers were brothers, Dee, Nathan and Lewis. Nephew, Acael Chivers, George Long and Leslie Robins.

Internment was in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Swain Feneral Home.
