Charles Andrew "Chuck" Cormack of Blackwell OK died July 12, 2011, at his home in Blackwell at the age of 86. Chuck was born on August 8, 1924, in Wakita OK to John Andrew and Harriette Ivy (Mason) Cormack. He grew up in Wakita before moving to Medford OK, where he graduated from Medford High School in 1941.


Following his education, he entered the United States Air Force before receiving an honorable medical discharge. He then began working with his father in the feed store in Wakita. In the early 1950's he moved to Blackwell. On December 19, 1954, he married Mary Ruth Johnson, and they made Blackwell their home. He worked for the Turnage Motor Company before joining the City of Blackwell as a firefighter. In 1957 he transferred to the Blackwell Police Department, serving as a police officer for 20 years. In the late 1960's he also began working part time in building maintenance for the Post Office and worked there until his retirement on December 19, 1995.


His wife preceded him in death on June 20, 2002; and he remained in Blackwell. He was a member of the Prairie Chapel Methodist Church in Blackwell. He also held membership in the Chikaskia Lodge #109, Independent Order of the Odd Fellow, and Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed feeding birds, caring for cats, and assisting others in need.


He leaves his daughters Janie Sage and husband Mike of Wichita KS, Sherrie Oder and husband Derron of Blackwell, and Christy Worley and husband Brian of Broken Arrow OK; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.


He was also preceded in death by his parents; son Mark Cormack; sister Viola Irvin; and brothers Harold and John Cormack.


Services are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Monday, July 18th, in the Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Sharon Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
