STRAWN

Shalor Copeland II, age 62 of Straw, died Monday, January 4, 2010 at The Woodlands in Eastland. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 6th, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Orsini officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Marion Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

Shalor Copeland II was born on June 3, 1947 in Stephens County, Texas to parents, William Copeland and Faye Stinnett (Mildred Fay McCord). He grew up in Strawn and graduated from Strawn High School in 1965. He later went on to graduate from Ranger Junior College. Shalor enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam, earning both the Purple Heart and the Silver Star Awards. He married Phyllis Ann McConnell on August 14, 1976 in Stephens County. Shalor was a lifelong rancher, operating Copeland Ranch which encompassed land in Palo Pinto, Stephens and Eastland Counties. He was a member of the American Legion, the Texas Southwest Cattle Raisers Association and the American Quarter Horse Association. He was also a Shriner and a member of the Strawn Masonic Lodge. Next to ranching, Shalor also enjoyed roping and hunting. He attended the Cowboy Church of Olden. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Shalor is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Strawn; one son, Shalor "Sha" Copeland and wife, Kimberley of Leonard; one daughter; Kipi Copeland Gailey and husband, Ian of Weatherford; five grandchildren, Walker, Waverly and Maverik Copeland all of Leonard and Dallas and London Gailey both of Weatherford; one brother, Will Copeland of Strawn; one sister, Andrea Bennett of Thurber; father-in-law, Harwell McConnell and wife, Jinger of Breckenridge; mother-in-law, Cornelia McConnell of Breakenridge; sister-in-law, Sheila Workman and husband, Edd of Possum Kingdom and Commie "Mule" Wooten and husband, Kenneth of Breckenridge; and a host of nephews and nieces.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation and may be left at Morehart Mortuary.
