OBITUARY:
Una Mae Stockwell
94, formerly of Potlatch

A graveside service for Una Mae Stockwell, 94, formerly of Potlatch, will be held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 9 at the Potlatch City Cemetery. John Russell, Potlatch Branch President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will officiate. Mrs. Stockwell passed away late Monday afternoon at the Capitol Care Center in Boise where she had resided for about two months.

She was born on August 22, 1913, in Palouse to Harold and Martha (Carroll) Dildine. She received her early education in Montana, and later finished her education in Polatch. She married Lester Stockwell on Jan. 21, 1939, in Colfax. The couple made their home in Onaway and Potlatch. Mr. Stockwell was a carpenter and worked for the Potlatch Lumber Co. He died in 1972.

Early in her life, Una worked as a housekeeper in the Potlatch area. She also worked as a custodian at Potlatch Forests Inc. for eight years. In 1962, she began working at the University of Idaho as a cook. She cooked in the sorority and fraternity houses for several years. She later worked as a cook in the main dining hall on campus until she retired in 1975 after 13 years of service to the university.

After her retirement, Mrs. Stockwell served on a mission for the LDS church in Escondido, Calif., for one and a half years. She later returned to Potlatch. In 2004 she moved to Boise to be near her son and daughter-in-law. She moved to the Capitol Care Center in Boise in May 2008.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Potlatch, Royal Neighbors and working women, both in Potlatch, and the Princeton Grange.

Survivors include her two sons, Ross and his wife, Joann Stockwell, of Boise, and Merle Stockwell of Moscow; her two daughters, Lucille and her husband, Don Gormsen, of Moscow, and Patricia and her husband, Terry Johnson, of Moscow; one brother, Donald Dildine of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Lois Gants of Medical Lake, Wash., and Patricia Bergendahl of Enfield, Conn; and 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
