Darlene Christina Chan, age 76, of Renville, died Monday, October 10, 2011, at her home near Renville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2011, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville. Burial is at Fairview Cemetery in Renville.

Darlene Christina Chan was born on July 6, 1935, in Bird Island, Minnesota to Thomas and Theresa (Sester) Beckler. She grew up in Bird Island and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in 1953. Darlene continued her education at Mankato State University graduating with a degree in Home Economics.

Darlene was united in marriage to Richard Chan on August 24, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island. She worked as a teacher with the D.A.C. and later became the director there. She later worked for Renville County as a social worker with senior citizens. Darlene was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville. She enjoyed playing Bridge, golfing, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons and daughter: David (and special friend Janet Ziemer) Chan of Alexandria, Kathleen (Ken) Larus of Hermosa, SD, Douglas (Anna) Chan of Willmar; her grandchildren: Sarah (Jason) Wagner, Brian (JoAnna) Chan, Daniel Chan, Amanda Chan, Mackanzie Chan, and Matthew Chan; her great grandchildren J.C. and Steven Wagner; her sister and brothers: Marlene (Lenus) Woelfel of Bloomington, MN, Ed (Netti) Beckler of Bloomington, MN, Roger (Carol) Beckler of Hector, her sisters-in-law: Sharon Beckler of Bloomington, MN, and Margaret Chan of Renville; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, and her brothers and sister: Don, Bernice, Gordy, and Bill.
