MARIA E. HILDEBRAND, age 56 of Gainesville, passed away Friday, November 2, 2012. Mrs. Hildebrand was born January 24, 1956 to Ernesto and Stella Chinchilla in Guatemala City, Guatemala. She grew up on Long Island in New York where her father was a Professor of Latin American History at SUNY Stony Brook. She received her Bachelor's degree in Sociology from SUNY Brockport and then returned to Guatemala and worked as a sociologist, at ICTA, helping improve the lives of women farmers. Upon returning to the states with her husband and raising their daughter in Gainesville, she taught Spanish for several years at Martha Manson Academy and Brentwood School. She enjoyed her many friends in Gainesville and around the world as well as traveling with her family. Together they visited many countries in Europe, South and Central America as well as China. She especially enjoyed Paris and Provence in France and Florence and Bellagio in Italy.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Peter E. Hildebrand; daughter, Annie Hildebrand Hughes and husband Michael Kelly Hughes; sisters, Juana Chinchilla Keller, Rosa Helena Chinchilla of Connecticut, Rosana Chinchilla of New York City; and many loving family members in Guatemala.

A Graveside Service will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 at 2:00PM at Forest Meadows Central Cemetery, 4100 NW 39th Avenue with Father Emmanuel Pazhayapurackal officiating. Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Boulevard, Gainesville, FL 32606 in Maria's name.
