Dr. Raymond John Leffler was born in Coggon; Linn County, Iowa. He later moved to Iowa City; Johnson County, Iowa and became class president of Iowa City High. He then went on to the University of Iowa Hawkeyes majoring in chemistry and graduated with a 4.0 in 1947. Later he joined the United States Navy and was stationed in Naples, Italy during the Korean War. After completing the Navy he then moved back to Camp Pendleton; San Diego County, California for one year and then moved to Knoxville; Knox County, Tennessee where he became head of the laboratory and chief pathologist at East Tennessee Baptist Hospital. Tragically on March 30, 1970 he was killed in a freak farm tractor accident.
