Lindy V. Vicari, 77, of Poinciani Avenue, Muhlenberg Township, died of natural causes Sept. 3 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient for seven weeks.

He was the husband of Jeannette N. (Ciabattoni) Vicari.

Born in Shoemakersville, he was a son of the late Oreste and Romilda (Crocetti) Vicari.

Vicari was founder, co-owner and operator of Ontelaunee Mushroom Farms Inc.

He was stock-car racing promoter and operator of the Reading Fairgrounds from 1955 until 1979.

Vicari was former operator of Penn National Speedway, Dauphin County, and owner and operator of Nazareth Speedway, Northampton County, retiring in 1984.

He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church.

Vicari was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was past president and board member of the Agriculture and Horticulture Society of Berks County.

Vicari was a board member of the Olivet Boys' & Girls' Club, where he received the National Alumni Association Award in 1991.

He was inducted into the York County Racing Hall of Fame and was recognized as one of the 50 most influential sports figures in Berks County history by the Reading Eagle.

He also is survived by a daughter, Regina A. (Vicari) Henninger, Muhlenberg Township; and two sons, Vincent L., Wyomissing, and John L., Muhlenberg Township.

Other survivors include two sisters, Alma (Vicari) Franco and Vanda (Vicari) Genova, both of Reading.

There are also seven granchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angels Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale, the Auman Funeral Homes, Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
