Enlisted as a Private May 1, 1864 in Atlanta, Ga by Capt. W. L. Hubbard. He was 17 years of age, stood 5' 4" in height, of fair complexion with grey eyes and light colored hair. He was a farmer from the Anderson District of South Carolina. The October 31st muster roll for this company indicates that Private J. N. Brown died June 17, 1864. *The records at the Andersonville Prison lists a J. M. Brown who died while on duty at the prison and was buried in Americus, GA in Oak Grove Cemetery – grave # 31.
