Granpa Miller settled in Clay Co, Arkansas about 1910. He married Mary Frances Beck.in Cairo, IL April 23rd, 1905,

When he was born there were still Indian Wars going on in the west. My grandfather as a young man actually packed a gun. In Arkansas he made his living as a cotton farmer. The whole family picked cotton. In the Winter he made Railroad Ties. He could shoot bumble bees out of the air. Mary was his 2nd wife as his first wife died in Childbirth. Most of his children were born in Clay Co, Arkansas. They lived by the swamp near the place called Styra (pronounced Starry) This was the place were the Moose (Train) ran and mades it's turnaround.

The family moved to Ballard Co, Kentucky because Grandpa and Grandma were afraid all their children were going to die of Malaria from living by the swamp. They lost two children in infancy and two as toddlers and "Arkie" the girl born to Eugene by his first marriage died of Scarlett Fever along with her cousin Ruby. The family was always poor.

Eugene and Mary were the Parents of Amy Ruth, Dewey A., Unkown Infant, Delbert Cleo, Clifton Eugene, Cecil Doil, George Washington, Charles Noble, Francis Laverne, and Doris Lillian.

It is funny to see that the name on Eugene's Gravestone is misspelled. Interesting fact is that his middle name is after Ulyssus S. Grant because Eugene's Father was a Union Sympathizer during the Civil war when they lived in Warren Co. Kentucky.
