John Brandt Alverson, Jr. was the son of Rev. John Brandt and Kezia (Stearns) Alverson, Sr. He served during the Civil War. John entered the service October 1861 and was mustered out June 1864. He suffered with chronic diarrhea - spent a short time in the hospital at City Point, Virginia and then was released. He went to the home of his cousin, Henry Bannister, and it was there that he died with his mother by his side.
