Jean (Sylvester) Otte was born on a farm west of Crook, Colo. She moved at age 5 with her family to Gibbon. She grew up there, attended school and graduated from Gibbon High School. She moved to Denver where she worked as a nurses' aid at Presbyterian Hospital. On Dec. 3, 1967 at Las Vegas, she married William Otte. They lived at Scottsbluff and Gering until moving in 1975 to a farm south of Bayard, where they had lived since. She worked as a nurses' aid on the surgical ward at West Nebraska General Hospital. She was a member of the church and Christian Women's Association.

Survivors include her husband, daughters Mrs. Carol Coile of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Mrs. Sharon Maxwell of Spokane, Wash; brother Stan Sylvester of Denver; sister Mrs. Ethel Brubaker of Scottsbluff and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in First Baptist Church at Scottsbluff. Burial took place in Fairview Cemetery at Scottsbluff. Jolliffe Funeral Home at Scottsbluff was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established to the Panhandle Cancer Fund.
