Oran and Carrie have lived all of their lives in Wellington. They have two sons, Oran Doolen and Gary Walter.
They were married June 20, 1926, in Wellington. At that time Oran was working for the power company that later became Central Power and Light, and West Texas Utilities. He later became self employed, recalling that his first job was doing the electrical wiring for an addition to the Wellington Hospital. Dr. E.W. Jones then hired him to wire the home he was in the process of building.
The Starkeys also owned and operated an appliance store and butane business. During the second World War, Oran worked at Pantex and the Childress Air Field. Much of the time, he commuted by motorcycle. An avid hunter and sportsman, he is an excellent fisherman and expert marksman. His knowledge of welding led to the manufacture of livestock equipment and later to the hobby of knife making. Many friends are proud of the knives he made and gave away.
Oran, however, ultimately turned to farming and purchased land south of Samnorwood in the Plymouth area. There he enjoys stock farming, and raising catfish. Carrie enjoys gardening and does excellent needlework and crafts. They are longtime members and loyal supporters of First Baptist Church of Wellington.
