James Combest, third child born to Samuel and Sarah (Sallie) Dick Combest of Pulaski County Kentucky. He married Nancy Bowmer (1812-1851) in 1827, Pulaski County Kentucky. They came to Illinois about 1838 and settled in Oconee, Shelby County. James was the father of nine children to include Commodore "Perry" Combest (1836-1920).He also married Mary F. Hobson.
