Biography by Rebecca Reuben Dyer

George Dyer was born in 1753 to James Dyer and Eleanor Brown. According to family tradition, the location of his birth was Prince George's County, Maryland. By 1775, George Dyer had met and married Rachel Dalton. Their union brought nine children and a long life together in the Leatherwood Section of Henry County, Virginia. A nearby neighbor was Patrick Henry. I have yet to prove a connection between the Dyer and Henry families, however, the name Henry has long shown up in the Dyer naming patterns.

In the month of May of 1777, George Dyer joined many of his neighbors and signed the Oath of Allegiance (List of Captain Daniel Hankins), and went on to serve as Lieutenant in the Maryland Continental Line in the American Revolution, making his descendants are eligible for Sons/Daughters of the American Revolution

George Dyer wrote his Last Will & Testament on 15 Mar 1823 at the age of 70. The Will was presented to the Henry County, Virginia, Court on 12 Feb 1827 and was recorded on 10 May 1830. Henry County, Virginia, Will Book, p263-264. Assuming he died in the year his Will was presented to the court, he would have had approximately 74 years on this earth.
