He was the son of Virgil Albert McCubbin and Mae Mary Catron. He had two sisters, Helen Gertrude and Doris May. He was married to Betty J Mead McCubbin Mason and together they had a daughter, Michal Ann.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the First Baptist Church for
Lt. Troy H. McCubbin, the first of Jefferson City's war dead to be returned from
the Pacific.

Lt. McCubbin was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil McCubbin, former residents of
Miller County. Survivors include his parents, his wife Mrs. Betty J. McCubbin,
and their three-year-old daughter, Michal Ann, of Phoenix, Arizona, and two
sisters, Mrs. A. Marshall Sams, a missionary to Argentine, and Doris McCubbin.

The Lieutenant was a pilot of a B-24 bomber and was killed in action over Kunming, China, July 13, 1944.

B-24J #42-73305 'Rose of Juarez' 308th Bomb Group, 375th Bomb Squadron, crashed at the end of the runway at Chengkung upon takeoff on a bombing mission 13 July 1944. After the initial crash, the bombs began to explode. This was the first of two accidents that day on the same runway.
