Born September 10, 1918 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Norra Bell (Hovis) Miller. She was a life long resident of the Waynesboro area.
Mrs. Brown received her G.E.D. from the Waynesboro School District.
She and her late husband, Mr. Sterling Lee "Bud" Brown, were married April 18, 1949. They moved to the present residence in 1991 and prior to that lived on Sunset Ave., both of Waynesboro. Mr. Brown died January 26, 2000.
Mrs. Brown was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Waynesboro. She and her late husband were advisors when it was the E.U.B. Church and helped with the youth at Camp Penn. She also was a youth director and Sunday school teacher at Faith United Methodist Church, and was a member of the South Chapter 2977 AARP, Waynesboro and National AARP.
Mrs. Brown served for over 40 years with the Franklin County Office of Child Evangelism Fellowship, Waynesboro. She taught and volunteered as a counselor at the Mark Victor Teeter Memorial Park, Waynesboro. Mrs. Brown taught and supervised the "Good News Clubs" for Child Evangelism Fellowship and also taught the Bible Release Time Program for Child Evangelism at the Path Valley Presbyterian Church.
She and her late husband volunteered with the Franklin County Meals on Wheels Program at the Waynesboro Senior Center.
For many years, she edited "Word of God" for the Record Herald.
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly L. Tanner, Elizabethtown, PA and Kimberly S. Hovis, Waynesboro; three sons, Jeffrey L. Brown, Hummelstown, PA, Dr. Michael J. Brown, Waynesboro, and Timothy D. Brown, Bel Air, MD; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Eugene Stockslager, Rouzerville and Robert Stockslager, Shady Grove, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
One daughter, Barbara A. Shirk who died in 1992, two brothers, Glenn Miller and Charles E. Miller, and two half-brothers, Lloyd Snowberger and Lawrence Snowberger, preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at Faith United Methodist Church, 104 N. Potomac Street, Waynesboro with Rev. John L. Rauch officiating. It was her request to have no public viewing, but the family will receive friends one hour prior to services in the church.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
