George married Martha Ann Oakes in about 1848, probably in Fentress Co, TN.
Their 10 children:
Sarah E., Lutitia, James Madison, Mariah Adeline or Adelaide Mariah, William Ramey, Paralee Ellen, Margaret, Thomas J., Mary Jane, George Washington Nichols, Jr. #34920127

George Washington Nichols, Sr. was brother to Amanda (Nichols) Oakes #34338944, who was the 2nd wife of William Oakes #58197414.

*There is another George Nichols, born about the same time. Researchers need to verify they have the correct one for their family genealogy records.

*Some believe that George is buried in the Buxton Cemetery next to his son, George William Nichols. The grave next to his son's plot is marked with only a small plaque reading "Nichols".
However, he could possibly have been laid to rest in the Gamble Cemetery, where other "Nichols" people are buried. This cemetery is located north of the east edge of Centerton, Benton Co, AR. Centerton is part of the Fayetteville-Rogers, AR, metropolitan area.

**Below information provided by George & Martha's 2x's great-granddaughter, Gayle Foster
George & Martha traveled in a wagon train with several other families (Wright, Misers, Buttrams, Oakes) from TN to Benton Co, AR, in 1854. George's father, Walter, as well as several other members of the Nichols family, were included. George & Martha raised their family in Benton County, except for a move North into Missouri during the Civil War; they sympathized with the North & wanted to escape the violence in Benton Co.
Martha is buried in Cherryvale, KS, where she moved with her daughter.
Some think George's mother (think her name is "Sarah") might have been a Tennessee Cherokee.
