No people injured in 2 fires; pet dies

One Dog died while two others survived and no people were injured in two Fort Wayne fires late Monday and early Tuesday.
Fort Wayne firefighters were called to a one-story home at 2606 Princeton Ave. at 12:22 a.m. Tuesday. They found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the house, a report said.
No one was home at the time, and the fire was brought under control in 14 minutes. Two dogs were pulled to safety and cared for by Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control, but a third Dog died, the report said.
The home sustained heavy fire damage and moderate water and smoke damage, the report said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Separately, the contents in a basement ignited a fire late Monday and damaged a home at 2121 Riedmiller Ave..
Firefighters were called to the home about 11:20 p.m. and found smoke coming from the basement. No one was in the home, and firefighters had the blaze under control in eight minutes, a report said.
The home sustained moderate fire, water and smoke damage.
There were no reports of injuries, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the report said.

A dog died after it and another were rescued from a fire just after midnight Tuesday. Meanwhile, a separate basement fire Monday night caused moderate damage.
In the first blaze, Fort Wayne Fire Department crews were called at 12:22 a.m. to 2606 Princeton Ave. to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the house, according to a report. No one was home but two dogs were removed from the house and given to Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control. One was listed on the report as having died. The fire was under control at 12:40 a.m. It caused heavy damage to the home's back rooms. A cause for the blaze is under investigation.
In the other fire, crews were called at 11:19 p.m. Monday to 2121 Riedmiller Ave. The first unit arrived in 3 minutes to find smoke coming from the basement. No one was home at the time and crews had the blaze under control at 11:30 p.m.
There were no injuries in either fire.
