Green-Wood Cemetery
Section 76, Lot 1077
The first burial in this lot, according to the cemetery's online records, occurred in 1850. The principal Walker monument, which appears to be of much more recent vintage, has many names inscribed upon it, but few of these names appear in the aforementioned records. Most, but not all of those unrecoded names are of children of Ferdinand and Elmira Walker who died between 1830 and 1845. This would suggest that those children were buried elsewhere and not moved to Green-Wood after it opened in 1840, and that their names appear on the stone as tributes, not as grave markers. But 2 of the 5 footstones on this lot bear the names Melvin (died 1830) and Frances (died 1845).
