Dr. Jerome Walker was the son of Ferdinand Walker and Elmira Smith and the husband of Helen Oakley. He served as an orderly with the U.S. Sanitary Commission during the Civil War. During the war he led President Abraham Lincoln on a hospital tour so the president could talk with recovering soldiers. After the war Jerome Walker attended medical school at Columbia University. Dr. Walker practiced medicine in Brooklyn, NY, for many years. He wrote a number of articles for medical journals.
