French Hay was the headquarters of General Lafayette during the Revolutionary War. When Lafayette returned to France he remembered his friend with a gift of a special hay seed. This hay thrived here and soon many were coming to get the French hay, hence the name. During the Civil War the Confederate Army camped there in June 1862. The grand French Hay is gone now. A Home Depot sits there.
