MISS JENNIE HOOFER DIES FOLLOWING OPERATION
Miss Jennie Hoofer, 47 yrs. old, died in Laughlin Hospital at Kirksville early Friday morning following an operation for tumor. She had not been in good health for the past year and on June 9th went to Kirksville to submit to an opeartion, which was performed the following day. The operation was apparently successful and she seemed well on the road to recovery, but her illness took a turn for the worse last week and death followed in a few days.
Miss Hoofer was one of the best known and most successful teachers in this county, having been engaged in this profession for the past twenty-five years. She taught last winter at the Rhodes school in Knox County.
She was the daughter of Jacob and Sarah Hoofer and was born near Sidney, Iowa, March 23, 1875. The greater part of her life was spent in the vicinity of Leonard, where she made her home on the farm with a brother and a sister, Henry and Miss Mattie Hoofer. She also leaves three other sisters, Mrs. George Haliburton, of near Cherry Box; Mrs. Laura King,of Farragut, Iowa, and Mrs. Sarah Schurk, of Lincoln, Nebr.
Deceased was a member of the Methodist Church, having her membership at Evans Chapel.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m., at the home, conducted by Rev. Dorcas, of Novelty, after which the remains were laid to rest in Greenfield cemetery.
