Sarah Ann Greenfield was born in LaGrange county, Ind., Aug. 19, 1838, and died at her home 2 miles northwest of Leonard, Mo., March 3, 1912. Aged 73 years, 6 months and 14 days. She was married to Jacob Hoofer March 5, 1857. To this union nine children were born, six of whom still survive her. She united with the Nishina Valley Methodist Episcopal church in Fremont county, Ia., in Aug. 1887. On coming to Missouri she transferred her membership to Evans Chapel Methodist Episcopal church, of which she was a faithful member. Her departure is mourned by the six children, 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 2 sisters and 2 brothers besides a host of friends.
Funeral was held at the home March 4, 1912, at 2 p.m. conducted by her pastor. Her body was laid to rest in the family burying grounds.
