Child Drowned In Creek

Thelma McQuiston Was Wading in Wakarusa Near Berryton

Thelma McQuiston, 7-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William McQuiston, of Berryton, was drowned Sunday afternoon in Wakarusa creek, five miles southeast of Berryton.

The McQuiston family was having a picnic on the creek where the child was drowned. Thelma and her sister, Alice, 15, were wading. Thelma suddenly sank. Her body was recovered about twenty minutes later and a first aid call sent to fire headquarters. Dean Way and Floyd Torgeson, firemen, gave the child first aid treatment more than an hour.

Besides her parents and sister, Alice, Thelma is survived by another sister, Alice;(sic) four brothers, John, Dave, Harold and William, Jr., and her grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Dreisbach, all of Berryton.

Funeral services will be held at the Wall-Diffenderfer chapel at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.
