"In 1974 I brought a bible from a charity shop in Drummoyne (NSW), which is the family bible for the family of Robert Jones Mackenzie and Ella Frances Chatfield, probably given to the couple on their wedding in 1872. The bible has resurfaced as I am moving house!
I am simply trying to give this bible back to the family it needs to be with. My search includes the descendants of the following children: Robert, Linda, Enid (Mrs H Mathews), Irene (1.Mrs Gregg 2. Mrs Cash), Lewis, Malcolm, Macalister, Angus, Gordon and Wallace.
The bible contains some valuable and original family records from that date. In the middle of the bible are pages are written with ink and some pencil, with family data. These pages are rather fragile but the details are clear: dates of birth, times, godparents etc. It is an invaluable resource for a descendant with an interest in genealogy. There is also a loose folded piece of paper, which details a typed family tree someone has complied at some stage. (This page gives Robert Snr's name as James!)
I am attempting to repatriate (meaning to give free) to any descendant of this family group who will respect and appreciate the bible as a part of their family heritage. As a family historian myself I respect the value of such items.
Are any of you in touch with any living descendents to whom I could offer this bible? Hopefully there are some here in Sydney.
Many thanks for your time
