After serving Parker's Battery of Virginia Artillery, Brown was Quartermaster for the Lee Camp of Confederate Veterans in Richmond and Quartermaster General of the Virginia Division of United Confederate Veterans. In 1862 he had joined Parker's Boy Company and indeed was underage. He served a credible part for the next three years, being twice wounded and twice captured. He was kept in prison for some months after the close of the war. He came back to Richmond and spent the rest of his life rebuilding and restoring the fallen fortunes of her patriots. He was kindly, stalwart, hearty, busy, and sorely missed.
