It is with great sadness the family of Ethel Lillian Benthien (Lily) announces her peaceful passing at her home early on Tuesday morning, November 27, 2007. She was 105 years old.

Lily was born July 8, 1902 in Lincoln, California to Charles Wesley and Daisy Dean Cullen. Her family moved to Santa Rosa where she graduated from high school. During the summer, she worked in Placer County and also packed cherries in Green Valley at the Benthien Ranch, where she met her future husband. Lily and Adolph (Duff) were married in Napa and raised not only their five children, but later in life also raised a granddaughter, Rochelle (Benthien) Vallarga. After Duff passed on, Lily provided child care for two of her great grandchildren, Julie Ogle and Victor Vallerga, from the time they were born until they were in 6th grade, while their parents were at work.

Lily was predeceased by her husband, Duff; sisters Violet Lathrop, May Pritchett Berg, and Margie Martini; brother, Dean Cullen; infant son Adolph Jr., sons William Benthien and Buddy Benthien; daughter Bette Perez; granddaughter Lori Edwards and great granddaughter, Amanda Edwards.

Lily leaves behind to cherish her memories, her sister, Laurel Nelson, sister-in-law, Helen Cullen, two daughters, Barbara Hunter and her husband Merle, and Beverly Williams and her husband Dink; grandchildren, Rochelle Vallerga and Mason Moore, Mark and Patty Hunter, Brian Hunter, Bret and Emita Hunter, Matt and Deline Hunter, Guy Williams, Janis and Mike Daly, Greg and Michelle Williams, Mike Benthien and Candace York, Rick and Diana Benthien, Cathi and Dave Forte, Andy and Cindy Benthien, Deborah Perez Ogle, Christina and Mike McDonald, and Cynthia and Bonifacio Perez Lomeli. She also leaves behind 24 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended families.

Lily had a full life centered around her family, enjoying many family gatherings and reunions. At her request, no services will be held for she did not want a get-together that she could not attend herself. She has left an imprint on all our hearts and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Richard Pierce Funeral Service, and notes of sympathy may be sent to the family on-line at WWW.RPFSC.COM.
