Violet was born Dec. 7, 1928, in Mandan, to Charles and Shirley (Suverly) Burtts. She married Ben Clooten on July 7, 1948, in Bismarck. In her early years, Violet worked in Oscar H. Will's nursery and the Sweetheart Bakery. Later she became a homemaker and worked as the bookkeeper in her husband's yard work business. Violet loved to hunt and fish. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards and dice.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Ron Zarr, Williston; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwayne and Paulette Clooten, and Blaine and Coleen Clooten all of Bismarck; five grandchildren, Dawn Zarr, Williston, and Ronald (Betsy) Zarr, Jennifer (Mark) Bachler, Danielle Clooten and Ashley Clooten, all of Bismarck; two great-grandchildren, Austin Clooten and Brittany Zarr, both of Bismarck; three brothers, Joe Fogarty, Newberg, Ore., Clarence Burtts, Linton, and Bill Burtts, Hazelton; and three sisters, Ruth Snyder, Newberg, Ore., Arlene Auch, Grangeville, Calif., and Judy Bailey, Mandan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Clooten; five sisters, Eleanor Fogarty, Lorraine Clooten, Harriet Schantz, Jean Knowlen and Joan Knowlen; four brothers, George Burtts, Charles Burtts, Maynard Burtts and David Burtts; and one granddaughter, Hope Clooten.
