Onice Louise Kern Mc-Cachern, 81, of Davidson, formerly of Mooresville, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at The Pines at Davidson. Born Feb. 21, 1924, in Rum-ford, S.D., she was a daughter of the late Maurice M. and Bernice Chambers Kern.
Mrs. McCachern was president of the senior class of 1941. After finishing high school, she moved to San Diego and worked at Consolidated Aircraft. She and her husband moved to North Carolina in 1947, and she worked at The Connoisseur in Mooresville for many years. After completing business school, she became a bookkeeper then office manager at Bay State Milling in Mooresville, until her retirement after working there 40 years. Mrs. McCachern was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mooresville, where she served as treasurer for the Women of the Church for many years, and she was also chair of Circle #1.
She married Frank McCachern in 1942. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Kern, sisters, Lucille Eickhoff and Helen Hoffman, and a granddaughter, Crystal Swart.
Mrs. McCachern is survived by her children, JoAnn McCachern Swart of Castle Hayne, Jean McCachern Hanson of Madison, Frank "Mac" McCachern Jr. of Castle Hayne, Denise Mc- Cachern Foster of Harrisburg and Stuart McCachern of Mooresville; grandchildren, Marina Swart, Leesa Hanson Knapp, David Hanson, Sara Hanson, Samantha Foster, Stuart Foster, Jacob Foster, Sonny McCachern, and Savannah McCachern; and a great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 20, at First Presbyterian Church in Mooresville. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Carolina Piedmont Chapter, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215 or First Presbyterian Church, 249 W. McLelland Ave., Mooresville, NC 28115.
