Bernice Barnes, age 86, and formerly of Corning, passed away on Sat, Jan 31, 2015 at Elcor Health Services.

She was born on Feb 3, 1928 in Campbell, the daughter of Clarence and Edith (Robbins) Atwood.

She married Thomas N. Barnes on Aug 28, 1985 in Painted Post. He predeceased her on Mar 15, 1993.

Bernice was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Corning. She enjoyed cats and sunflowers, and was a very loving, compassionate, and generous soul.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Charles H. Bell of Hudson, NH, Jane Fitzgerald of Bakersfield, CA, and Pam and Larry Whitfield of Washington, PA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Harry McClure of Hickory, NC and Betsy and Bill Dehn of Spencerville, MD; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Donna Atwood of Troy, PA; grandchildren, Charlie, Carmen, Jason, Sarah, Katie, and Lucy; g-grandchildren, Owen, Adrianna, Melanie, and Aleeah; and several nieces and nephews.

Bernice was predeceased by her sister, Violet Taft, and her grandson, Michael Fitzgerald.

There will be no calling hours. A celebration of Bernice's life will take place at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 East Pulteney Street in Corning on Wed, Feb 4, 2015 at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery.
