PATRICK F. BABCOCK, 82, of Fort Wayne, died on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Parkview Hospital. Born July 14, 1928, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Elmer E. Babcock and Mae (Rum-baugh) Babcock. He graduated from Central High School, Fort Wayne, in 1946, and attended Purdue University, Fort Wayne, in 1950. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948 and later joined the Marine Reserves in 1951, serving for several years. He was the owner/operator of the Babcock Sign Company, Fort Wayne for 25 years. He created and painted the Sunbeam Bread sign which was his contribution to Fort Wayne. He also worked as a fireman with the Fort Wayne Fire Department for 5 1/2 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 47, in Fort Wayne and a 1958 founding member of the UET Scuba Diving Club, Fort Wayne. Survivors include his four daughters, Linda and Bob Kunkel of Kendallville, Terri Babcock and Jean Babcock, both of Fort Wayne, Diana (Brian) Heil of Elkhorn, Wis.; six grandchildren, Dave Kimmell, Grant, Matt and Sarah Kunkel, Kyle (Matt) Locher and Pat Donaldson; numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters. Memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011, at American Legion Post #47, 6424 Saint Joe Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation from noon to 2 p.m. Preferred memorials may be made to American Legion Post # 47.
